Battle Royale

In Battle Royale, the narrator is battled by almost everyone. The white rich people are superior to him and constantly remind him of it. He is poor and has to do whatever he can for money. His fellow black people are also battling with him because they are all trying to succeed more than the other, even if that means sabotaging each other.
The scene with the prostitute is symbolic of the overall story because it represents how everyone wants America. The prostitute is America because she is described in red, white, and blue and she has an America flag tattooed on her belly. All the men watch her and eventually become uncontrollable. This also shows the white man’s control over the black me because the woman is sent by the white men. The white men sit and watch the black men fondling over her. It amuses them to know that they are in control. “Then I became aware of the clarinet playing and the big shots yelling at us. Some threatened us if we looked and others if we did not.”
